This is Lady,
and this is Lily.
I got them both from the Cackle Hatchery in Montana 5 years ago. They are both Black Australorps. They stopped laying eggs earlier this year.
Is the past 3 weeks, 5 of my hens and 3 of my roosters have got eaten.
So that left me with 11 hens and 3 roosters (and the 3 baby rooster chicks).
Yesterday I got 5 new hens so yay!
Here are a couple pics, I will be sharing more tomorrow for Rural Thursday
so stop back in so you can see them!
They were in what I call "Chicken Prison"
They had nothing fresh and green to eat, all had mites.
Since their diets weren't complete (I'm guessing they only had corn) they picked on each other constantly.
As you can see in the first pic they barely have tails.
Ok, more tomorrow!
Ok, more tomorrow!

Hi
Lovely ladies!
Sad when hens get eaten, we got all of ours taken by a fox last year.
Got 6 new chickens and just hatched 5 chicks.
You'll soon be enjoying fresh eggs again soon.
x
I'm sure you'll have them in good shape in no time. Sorry to hear you've had such predator problems.
I would love to have some here, but we have too many predators...
Some one in the neighborhood has a rooster--I remember once several decided to go for a walk and took a stroll down to our street.
Perhaps they were looking for your place?!
look forward to seeing pictures of the newcomers in full fluff and flutter.
Such lovely ladies.
I'm glad you headed up the jail break! I love the Americaunas...I need more of them myself. Hmmmm, you're putting ideas in my head. Not good...I just got 50 chicks so I really shouldn't be getting these ideas!
how fun! glad you rescued them from chicken prison!! hope you had a very happy birthday last week :)
So sorry to hear you lost some. I hate it when that happens. Hope your new hens will thrive!
Glad you have rescued them!
=)
Wow awesome shots. Sorry about your loss.
I am sure they are going to love the new home:) B
So sorry about your chickens. It's always hard to lose them. Good luck with the new bunch! :)
How neqt! I will try to stop back by tomorrow.
I was chased through an orange grove by a couple of rogue hens. TChickens and Roosters scare me.
I'll leave you with a good tip from a good lesson learned. Don't lose your chewing gum in a chicken yard. Ha ha. ~Ames
I hope you have better luck with this bunch.
used to help mum rear chickens. never named them.
even chicks have personalities
lamb's wool
Great shots! Hope you can keep the predators away.
I've never heard of these before. They certainly look more intimidating than the average chicken!
Gosh your photos are so brilliant. The colors on the birds are amazing! I love learning different info about life with animals. We have a cat and dogs so they are all uniquely different. Thank you
These are great photos of the new members of your flock. I especially like the close detail because, let's face it, how often can we get that close to a chicken to check it out!
I am sorry that some of your brood got eaten. Was it a coyote?
VBR, it was either a possum that I have seen a few times or we have recently had some Raccoon problems.
The Cackle Hatchery?
Oh man. That is funny.
What's not funny is losing your chickens. I'm sorry to read that!
I hope you get to the bottom of that problem soon!
Thanks for linking Miss Yoland.
I always enjoy your lovely posts.
