T is for Tomato the Chicken

 Meet Tomato,
she is 4 years old and a full Black Australorp.
If you look at her feet you can see that one foot is just a stub.

3 winters ago we had a really really cold winter and she got horrible frostbite on one foot and lost all of her toes.
But obviously, she stayed alive. Her foot healed up and now she just walks a bit funny. She is now the tamest chicken we have, and my dad lets her into the garage daily so she can have birdseed. So she is heavier than the roosters, but not fat.

I love the little white feathers she has, they stand out a lot against her black feathers.

She lays perfect brown eggs for us.

Linking up with:
Jenny for Alphabe-Thursday.
Nancy and Lisa for Rural Thursday.
Deborah for Farmgirl Friday.

Crazy about the frostbite. Did you end up doing anything to treat it or did she just heal on her own?

Thank you!

We had a rooster that lost all of his toes one winter and he lived for a few more years, just hopping around!

Thank you so much for sharing at Rural Thursdays. Have a wonderful weekend!
